Temple Santiago Chile is the number 24 operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In 1850, Mormon missionaries from the United States arrived in Chile to begin preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to the people of Chile. His stay was not very long because of the language barrier. Ninety-five years passed before two missionaries Argentina arrived to begin preaching again. At the time of the dedication of the Temple of Santiago in 1983, had 140,000 members of the Church in the country of Chile.
The announcement of the construction of a temple in Chile was three years before its dedication. The temple of Santiago was the first temple built in a English speaking country and the second to be built in South America.
In 1983 the completed church in Santiago was open to the public. Many faithful members came from distant cities to participate and rejoice in the construction and dedication of the temple built in his country. The temple was finally dedicated on September 15, 1983 by Gordon B. Hinckley.
With the rapid growth of the Church in the country of Chile, the temple was closed for extensive renovation and was rededicated on March 12, 2006 . Chile Today, the temple serves more than 535,000 members. The Temple of Santiago de Chile is the national flower motifs (copihue), art-glass windows, marble and lapis Chilean sausages. Has a total of 20.831 square feet, two ordinance rooms and two sealing rooms.
